The Department of External Chinese Medicine of Zhejiang Provincial Hospital of Chinese Medicine was established in 1986. The Anorectal Division became an independent department in 1992.

Focusing on treating post-operative conditions with integrated therapies of TCM and western medicine, treating pelvic floor dysfunction with needle knife, using TCM formulas, aromatherapy and bathing for benign anorectal diseases such as hemorrhoids, anal fissure, complicated anorectal abscess and fistulas, rectal prolapse, itchy anus, functional gastrointestinal disorders, and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).
