Clinical Research on the Effect of Restoring Gastrointestinal Function after Abdominal Surgery by Acupuncturing at Gastrointestinal Lower Sea Points

Objective To observe the influence on the gastrointestinal function by needling at

“Zusanli”(ST36) “Shangjuxu”(ST37) and “Xiajuxu”(ST39) points after operation on ab-dominal region.

Methods 74 clinical cases with clear diagnosis that all met the inclusion criteria were randomly divided into two groups, with 37 cases per group. The treatment group was ordinarily acupunctured at“Zusanli”(ST 36),“Shangjuxu”(ST 37) and“Xiajuxu”(ST 39) 6h after the surgery, once a day, each time 30min, manipulating needle per 10min,continuous three days. The contrast group was given conventional treatment without needling.Record the time of bowel sound recovery, first flatus, first defecation after surgery.TCM symptoms and signs was scorecard before and after treatment, and in accordance with sub-condition grading standards, using SPSS 13.0 statistical software to deal with the data and evaluate security and compliance.

Results  Time of bowel sound recovery, first flatus and first defecation after surgery were shorter in the observation group than in the control group, which had a significant difference(P <0.05). The effective rate in relieving symptoms and signs was 97.3% in the acupuncture group and 83.7% in the contrast group with a significant difference between the two groups(P <0.05). The effective rate in total clinical effective rate was 89.2% in the acupuncture group and 73.0% in the contrast group with a significant difference between the two groups (P <0.05).

Conclusion Acupuncture at “Zusanli”(ST 36) , “Shangjuxu”(ST 37) and “Xiajuxu” (ST 39) had an effect in promoting the gastrointestinal function.
